Mac OS X Lion – .profile alias and path

I have noticed that the bash implementation in Mac OS X Lion is different to my Ubuntu and SUSE integrations. The thing I miss most are some aliases that makes the life much easier. But he bash shell gives you everything you need to get rid of this problem.

Just add a file called “.profile” in your home folder and add missing commands:

touch .profile

Now use your beloved text editor and add your aliases and path.

alias ll="ls-la"
alias ld=ls -ld"
alias gohome="cd ~"

To export a path to your script collection or any other executable just add:

export PATH=$PATH:<my folder I want to export>

e.g.

export PATH=$PATH:/usr/share/myscripts
