Mac OS X – print screen – screenshot

To make screen shots on a Mac is much more comfortable than on a windows based system without additional tooling like Gadwin Printscreen.

The keyboard shortcuts are taken from the Apple Support Page:

Command-Shift-3 Capture the screen to a file
Command-Shift-Control-3 Capture the screen to the Clipboard
Command-Shift-4 Capture a selection to a file
Command-Shift-Control-4 Capture a selection to the Clipboard

The format for screenshot can be changed with an easy terminal command:

defaults write com.apple.ScreenCapture type JPG
killAll SystemUIServer

Supported format are: JPG, PDF, TIF or PNG

To change the destination of the screenshots:

defaults write com.apple.Screencapture location /Path/to/destination
killAll SystemUIServer
