plesk horde all mail deleted

I was using my iPad and loged into my plesk webmail client (Horde). I could not delete some mails. So I made severe mistake.

I pressed the “empty folder” button –> all mails are lost

All mails are purged and their is no additional massage box that asks you if you really want to delete it. Everything is gone.

To get your mails back you need to have access to your server, further you need to have a regular running backup. The Plesk backup tool works quite fine. It dows not matter if you have a domain backup or full server backup.

Please see the restore post how to get you mails back.

This happened to me as well. I thought that “empty folder” icon, which uses a trash can, would simply delete all trashed items. This is not the case. Instead, it deletes everything in the current folder, permanently.

This is really bad design. I bet it happens to many Horde users.

A simple batch job that does a back of your /var/qmail/mailnames folder may help to recover the mail before the overall delete.

I just have a batch job that runs each night like: tar jcvf /backup/mail-backup.tbz /var/qmail/mailnames

When it happens just unpack the archive and moe the deleted folder back on the place where it used to be. At least all mails that have been backuped up before the incident are back again.
