RHEL 5.X – remount LVM after a volume crashed

I tried to restore a RHEL 5.4 server with 2 disks each containing LVM Volumes.

I could only restore the primary disk. The second one was of no importance. Now RHEL starts in a “restore mode”. Unfortnually the LVM is mounted read only. So there is no way to modify the /etc/fstab to uncomment the missing second LVM Volume.

su -
mount -o remount,rw /

These commands did the trick.

Now I just commented out the second LVM and voila the server came up.

[root@myserver ~]# cat /etc/fstab
/dev/vgroot/lvroot      /                       ext3    defaults        1 1
LABEL=/boot             /boot                   ext3    defaults        1 2
tmpfs                   /dev/shm                tmpfs   defaults        0 0
devpts                  /dev/pts                devpts  gid=5,mode=620  0 0
sysfs                   /sys                    sysfs   defaults        0 0
proc                    /proc                   proc    defaults        0 0
/dev/vgroot/lvswap      swap                    swap    defaults        0 0
# /dev/vgdata/lvdata              /opt            ext3    defaults        1 2

Pretty dirty trick though but it worked.
